THE ALL-NEW JEEP WRANGLER JL HAS ARRIVED!

Not since 2006 has the Jeep Wrangler seen a redesign quite like this. The outgoing JK has been a mainstay in the off-road SUV market, crushing it's competition year after year in capability, and beloved by Jeep owners since its inception. The redesign of the all-new Jeep Wrangler JL was no small task. By carefully listening to previous Jeep owners and what new buyers were looking for in a Jeep, they came up with a Wrangler that is both functional and comfortable. In this post, we will go over the key changes between the JK and the JL. We hope it helps in your SUV buying journey!

Saying Goodbye to an icon: The Wrangler JK

The third-generation Wrangler was released for the 2007 model year, adding a four-door option for the first time, creating huge buzz in the Jeep community. Ontarian’s and people all over the world bought the Wrangler JK Unlimited in droves, as a larger model added cargo space to it's long list of capabilities. This opened up an entirely new market of buyers who bought Jeep's for their styling, and not just it's performance, using it as their daily driver booting around the city, going up north to the cottage, and driving around the GTA for work. Fast forward to 2018, the Wrangler JK has earned countless awards for resale value, off-road capability, and reliability, making it one of the best SUV's you can buy.

This is the last model year for the Wrangler JK, and we are sad to see it go. This generation will surely go down as one of the most valuable and will surely hold it's resale value for years to come, just as previous generations continue to do. With the incoming Wrangler JL, rare deals and discounts are to be had on the JK, and Menzies Chrysler was sure to stock up before the end of production. Introducing the All-New 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL

These are exciting times for Jeep lovers. The all-new Jeep Wrangler JL is the perfect combination of capability, versatility, and comforts expected in a new SUV today. They combined all of these elements to create the perfect blend for any type of Jeep person. Below we will compare the old with the new so you can get a clearer idea of what has changed!

Exterior Styling

The new Wrangler JL maintains the same shape but with more defined styling all around. Starting in the front, the grille has been redesigned with protruding headlights into the grille as they did back in the very first Jeeps made. You’ll also notice the grille angles near the top to improve aerodynamics. Continuing with the front end of the new JL, it now has available LED day-time running lights and turn signals built into the fender flares. Moving to the front fender, the fog lights are built in like the JK, but the overall design has changed. The JL’s windshield is also different than the JK, with a 6-degree angle increase to improve aerodynamics, wind noise, and fuel efficiency. It also opens much easier compared to the JK, but we’ll talk about that later.

Moving on to the back, the Wrangler JL engineers got creative with the design of the tail lights. The new Wrangler has available blind spot monitoring, and the only way to add the sensors required was to build them into the tail lights, giving them a cooler look. They also look really good with the LED lighting package! The engineers also made great improvements to the backup camera, integrating it into the spare tire to increase camera visibility.

Other exterior differences include a change from a button push door to a more ergonomical pull handle. The side of the body has more lines to give the new JL a more aggressive look. All new wheel and colour options top off the new Wrangler JL to offer you a host of options to make your new Wrangler unique.

Interior Styling

The interior is where you will see the major differences between the JK and JL. The Wrangler JL interior was completely redesigned to offer a more premium experience that today’s buyers crave. The 6.5” Touchscreen Navigation was updated with the industry-leading available 8.4” Uconnect 4C Infotainment system. This is integrated with a 7” customizable cluster display so you can keep your eyes on the road. This system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to give you an even better driving experience.

The heritage-inspired centre stack features a clean look with easy to read buttons that complements the dash design. Keyless Entry and Push Start ignition are now available and a Heated Steering Wheel option was added to the JL to give us Canadian’s even more comfort in the cold winter.

Functionality

When designing the new Wrangler JL, the engineers main objectives was to make it easier to use the Wrangler’s one of a kind features, like putting the windshield down, removing the doors, or the top. These tasks could sometimes be time consuming for an inexperienced Jeep owner to tackle in the Wrangler JK, but with some forward thinking and a ton of research and development, the new Wrangler JL makes it super easy and functional.

Putting the windshield down is a breeze, by removing two latches in the interior, you can have it down and wind in your hair in no time.

The new JL now offers a number of top choices, including an all-new Sky One-Touch Power Top, giving you a full length convertible top at the press of a button. The new Sunrider Soft Top now features retainers that slide into a track for easier rear passenger window removal (a time consumer with the outgoing Wrangler JK).

Expanded Capability and Choice

The Wrangler JK offered only one engine choice, the very durable and reliable 3.6L Pentastar V6 paired with a  5-speed transmission. Of course, you can still get this in the new JL, but now with an updated 8-speed transmission, vastly improving the drive and fuel economy.

A brand new engine and transmission is now available, a 2.0L Turbo paired with the same 8-speed automatic transmission.
